BOISE, ID, September 17th, 2010 --StarWraith 3D Games LLC today announced the release of EvochronMercenary, the sequel to its original freeform 3D spacesimulator.
The effects of managing a ship in space can be quite challenging, so the ships in Evochron have computer flight assistance to accommodate this zero atmosphere environment and provide a manageable control system for the pilot. Your ship is controlled by 2 main engine outlets and 8 maneuvering thrusters mounted on the hull. Chimera in Evochron Mercenary is more powerful than in Legacy. I think it was more that cannon relay systems got nerfed as they don't add an extra pair of barrels anymore, which cut a ship's.
Evochron Mercenary rounds out a trilogy in the series,culminating in the game with the highest level of technology andmost extensive feature set. Set in a vast explorableuniverse, Evochron Mercenary offers an amazing level of freeformgameplay with many different objectives and paths to choosefrom. Just a few of the available activities include buildingnew space stations, designing ships, cleaning dirty solar arrays,placing satellites in orbit, bribing hostile pilots, hiring crew,spying, racing, trading, clearing paths through asteroid fields,escorting vulnerable transports, hunting for valuable shipwrecks,and of course, the advanced space combat that Evochron has becomeknown for.
Evochron Mercenary is a freeform space-sim that focuses on'lone-wolf' survival gameplay. Players are free to seek theirfortune as an independent mercenary in an adventure directed bytheir choices, abilities, and accomplishments. Each playercan bring their unique skills and interests to the game, formingclans for cooperative goals or remaining solo to completeobjectives on their own in true freeform space-sim gameplay.They can choose to fight for the military in battle filled warzones or take on objectives as a civilian. A player'sdecisions and actions define their role in the game and establishtheir reputations, wealth, progress, and ranking.
Players pilot their spacecraft through a highly detailed andinteractive universe filled with photon-rich nebulae, dangerousblack holes, high gravity stars, massive stations, and diverseplanetary landscapes. Players are in complete control oftheir spacecraft while traveling in open space and during descentsfrom space to planets. With no required jump gates or tradelanes to restrict movement, players are free to explore the openspace environment at their own pace using any travel path theychoose. Unified save-game profile architecture lets playerskeep the ships, upgrades, equipment, money, weapons, crew, andcommodities they earn for use in both the single player andmultiplayer modes (including connecting to differentservers). Saving is also available virtually anywhere withoutdocking requirements.
A revised component based shipyard lets players design and buildcustom ships with double the number of available ship frames overthe previous game, both civilian and military. Frame storagespace for civilian ships can now also be customized, letting theplayer change the capacities for crew, countermeasures, equipment,and secondary weapons for the role they want to play. Inaddition to functional options, players can also customize the lookof the ships they build by positioning and scaling variouscomponents.
The new multiplayer system offers in-game voice chat andsupports group territory control, letting players join together toconquer solar systems for profit. The in-game quadrant mapprovides real-time territory control data and credit is given foreach Clan-vs-Clan kill and completed cooperative contract.Controlling clans must defend their territory from other clans whocan take the systems for themselves. Players can construct stationsin newly discovered systems to expand their empires and introducenew trade locations, AI pathways, and resources to expand thegame's universe. Available build options include tradestations, constructor stations, research stations, energy stations,and ore processors. Players can also deploy temporarystructures including energy recharge stations, repair stations,sensor stations, fuel processors, shield arrays, and miningprobes.
A new 'quest' system features multiple objectives spanning manysolar systems throughout the game's universe. The quest willfurther train players for the game, provide details on the historyof the game's universe, and guide players through systems usefulfor upgrading their ship. Completing quest objectives alsoprovides information on secret locations and hidden benefits in thegame.
For stations, cities, and carriers, a new lobby mode isavailable for players to enter that gives them access to full chatcontrols (voice and text), inventory management, the shipyard, andstorage hangars. Once inside a station, city, or carrier, a playeris safe from attack.
The sound and music has been enhanced significantly fromprevious games and includes music by Rich Douglas that changes withthe level of hostility around you.
New equipment and weapons includes specialized mining beams,anti-missile system, shield array recharger, particle cannonheatsink, afterburner overdrive, automatic countermeasure launcher,kinetic cannons, and station detonators. Capital ships nowalso feature powerful new anti-shield torpedoes and flak cannonsfor improved capabilities against other capital ships and smallattack spacecraft.
The enhanced realistic zero gravity inertia based 'Newtonian'style flight model includes complete freedom of movement (3-wayrotation and 3-way direction control) with optional variable input.An advanced inertial dampening system helps keep flight controlsimple in space, atmospheres, and gravity fields.
The new graphics engine supports higher resolutions, greaterdetail, and new effects/technology. Broad compatibilityincludes support for most 3D video cards with at least shader model2.0 capability. The new planetary engine includes far morerealistic clouds, water, and terrain. New gas giant planetsfeature moving cloud layers and powerful winds.
The game includes support for NaturalPoint Inc.'sTrackIR head tracking system. A PC with TrackIRconnected knows exactly where the player is sitting and looking, bycapturing their head motion with all six degrees of freedom.Evochron Mercenary uses TrackIRs unique input to control theview from the pilot's cockpit perspective, independent of keyboard,mouse, or joystick inputs.
Evochron Mercenary runs on the Windows PC platform,including Windows XP, Vista, and 7. The recommended minimumsystem configuration for the game includes a 2.0 GHz processor, 128MB 3D video card, and 1.5 GB of RAM. Evochron Mercenary is a game of vast scale that has similarities to Freelancer. The game belongs to the same universe as the popular Star Wraith series of space simulators that first started in 2000.In the game you will see if you have what it takes to survive alone in space. You’ll be right in the pilot seat as you travel through the universe participating in a huge range of activities in the hopes of building up your reputation and most importantly wealth.Evochron is a game where your entire destiny is under your control. Players will jump into the game as an independent mercenary and accept the jobs that they want while exploring what the universe has to offer.
This could be trading with the various settlements, entering races to test your pilot skills, mining for resources, transporting passengers, participating in dog fights and plenty of other odd jobs that a mercenary for hire will encounter.At the start of the game you’ll get to start as mercenary, trader/miner, combat pilot or racer. Each of these options comes with their own level of wealth and starting ship so you can choose one that resonates with your preferred style of gameplay.
